THE TIVOLI - SAVED !!
Merlin Cinema's bought the Tivoli in May 2008 and plan to re-open on the 28th of June - fantastic news for our town! Great credit to them and to the previous owners for agreeing to sell the Tivoli to a cinema operator.
Many thanks to the thousands of supporters who signed our petition; and to the many local companies and organisations who gave generously of their expertise and services.
Finally, particular thanks to the stalwarts of our campaign committee who generously gave their time for meetings and attending shows and markets, in all weathers! They made tremendous efforts collecting signatures and spreading the word on behalf of the Tivoli. To Karen & Tony Abbott, Ken Willis, Bob Burden, Mike Cleeve, Gordon Davies, Kim & Dan Burt, Anne Clayton, Miriam Deakin and Matt Hallam - thank you and well done!
So, to everyone who enjoys cinema and wants to keep it going in Tiverton, let's support Merlin and make a visit to the Tivoli a regular part of our life - thanks again, - Bryn Williams, campaign chairman.

The Tivoli Cinema in Fore Street, Tiverton has 304 seats.
The Tivoli cinema in Tiverton was built in 1932 and has been a much-loved resource for our town, its residents and visitors for 75 years. Now sadly closed, it was the only cinema in Mid-Devon and provided a welcoming traditional cinema experience showing a range of films to filmfans of all ages - the young, the not-so-young, families, singles - everyone. We're disappointed that despite all the effort and support of many thousands of residents and visitors, we have not yet been successful in persuading the landlords to retain the building as a cinema. However, the Save the Tivoli Committee is determined to continue promoting the issue and we urge the landlords to take advantage of the interest expressed by two leading west-country cinema companies who want to buy it and keep the Tivoli as an independent cinema. Keep the faith - and be ready to help us challenge any planning proposal that seeks to redevelop the site. Thank you.
